Summerland police station referendum passes

John Arendt - Summerland Review Published: October 02, 2010 9:00 PM
The Summerland RCMP will get a new police station as a referendum on borrowing the money for the project received overwhelming public support.  A total of 3916 valid votes were cast on Saturday, with 2,655 in favour and 1,261 opposed.  With the referendum passing, the municipality is now able to borrow up to $3.125 million for the new police station. The station, at around 835 square metres of usable area and a basement of around 450 square metres, will replace the aging and crowded facility on Jubilee Road East.
