UBCM Wish List Making Progress

It appears as if the BC government has finally cannonballed into the fight over Greater Vernon Water. Vernon, Coldstream and the two electoral areas have been arguing over the issue and the threat of court action looms. Mayor Wayne Lippert says staff from the Ministry of Community and Rural Development have been working with local officials on a Memorandum of Understanding. Lippert, who has been leading a delegation at the UBCM convention, was also expected to talk more about it yesterday (Thursday) afternoon with the minister, Ben Stewart.

Not much movement on the possible annexation of Areas B and C into Vernon. Premier Campbell has told the mayor he will send off a letter outlining the province's stand on the matter.

The City of Vernon has had a ``definite yes'' from Tourism Minister Kevin Krueger and can keep its second hotel room tax for the next five years, says Mayor Wayne Lippert. Krueger was one of a number of ministers who met with the Vernon delegation attending the UBCM convention. The funds are used to promote tourism to Vernon.
