Water Customers Asked to Cut Back

Thirty five thousand water customers on the Kalamalka Lake source are being asked to help out by reducing water use starting Wednesday. It's while Greater Vernon Water relocates a big water main that runs under the new Coldstream grid road, now called College Way.Al CotsworthUtilities manager Al Cotsworth (pictured) says they're asking for a week's co-operation, to October 13."It's very possible it could be shorter, but we'd like to give ourselves some breathing room that if things do go wrong we can accommodate it." The request is to program automated sprinklers to about half the normal amount, reducing clothes washing during the restricted period, along with no home car washing or driveway flushing. Cotsworth says if the voluntary restrictions don't reduce usage enough, there could be mandatory restrictions.
