Bad Heroin Claims Two Lives

HeroinA bad batch of heroin is making the rounds in Vernon, and for some users,  it's been deadly.  Kelly Fehr, the manager of the Gateway Shelter, says two people have died since taking it the last two weeks, and four others hospitalized.  "Both shelters have posters up all over the place, and we do announcements every couple days to remind people that there is an extremely bad batch of heroin going around town, and if they are in a position where they need to use, take precautions and be careful."Fehr says it appears the drug is not cut as much as normal, making it more potent.

Vernon Police Question Report Of Bad Heroin - Gateway Shelter warned of bad drugs

Vernon police are unable to confirm a report that a bad batch of heroin in the city may have caused the deaths of two people and sent four others to hospital. Gateway Shelter spokesperson Kelly Fehr says a police officer issued the warning last week, telling shelter officials about the deaths. However RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk could not confirm the report of a bad batch. Molendyk says a rush was put on medical tests last week, including a tox screen, following the death of a homeless person. He says this was after a nurse mentioned `bad heroin.'  Molendyk says the coroner found no heroin in the homeless person's system.
