A disappointment for the Village of Lumby's proposal for a correctional facility. Mayor Kevin Acton says a visit that was scheduled for this week to look at the site and let council know if Lumby could be considered as an option was cancelled. Acton says his understanding is because of the Liberal Leadership race, the brakes have been put on in some ministries. Solicitor General Rich Coleman is one of those considered a potential candidate. Acton says they're at a standstill right now, but he feels the Okanagan has great potential, even though at least two other communities ( Clearwater and Lillooet) have expressed interest. Kelowna has also said they still want to be considered for a new regional correctional facility. The Mayor says a jail is needed in this area because two-thirds of the population at the Kamloops Correctional Facility is from the Okanagan corridor. Acton says they're looking forward to a consultants report that will consolidate the information gathered during last month's economic development meeting. He says they're moving forward with plans to set up an economic development committee and working on the community forest.
