Council in Coldstream will get a raise, but it won't kick in until after the next election. The current council has approved a hike for the mayor to $27, 561 a year, and to $10,924 for councilors. Mayor Jim Garlick says he's currently getting paid around 24 thousand, so that increase is around 14 percent, and the councilors he says make just under 9,000 now, which works out to around a 21 percent hike. Kiss FM is still waiting for a call back from District staff to get the actual current remuneration amounts for council. According to the bylaw, the increases will kick in January 1, 2012 after the November 2011 elections. Council members will also get $131.68 for attending "prescribed meetings" such as NORD and all NORD committeee, Okanagan Regional Library, and other authorized by resolution of council.
Garlick says the increases will move them closer to the provincial average for similar size jurisdictions.
