The roller-coaster ride ended on a high for Chris Baryla. Today, in the sixth and final round of PGA qualifying in Florida, the Vernon golfer shot a 66 — including seven of his tournament-leading 33 birdies — to score his PGA Tour card for 2011. It wasn't easy for the 28-year-old Baryla, whose stunning 61 in the second round had him in first place but shot a 74 in Sunday's fifth round to drop to a tie for 36th. That was 11 places from a card, as only the top 25 and ties would get one. But today, on the Crooked Cat Course where he'd previously had that 61 and a fourth-round 71, Baryla birdied his first five holes and finished the tournament with a six-round total of 417, six shots behind the leader and in a tie for 11th. Baryla, a former Nationwide Tour regular who now lives in El Paso, Tex., had a tough 2010 leading into qualifying, as the rookie PGA player took in seven PGA events but made just two cuts, $24,254 and lost his card.
