A citizen's group is keeping close tabs on the city of Vernon's budget discussions. Businessman Corky McMechan is part of 'budget review committee that has sat through the first two days of budget talks. He says one of his concerns is the massive growth in city manpower the last five years. He notes " the population increased by about 7 point 7 percent but in that same time period manpower at the city increased by 55 percent and subsequently salaries increased by about 65 percent." McMechan wants the city's spending to reflect the cost cutting that taking place with businesses and the taxpaying public.
