It's a week of transition for Vernon Fire Rescue. Jeff Carlisle (pictured) ended almost three years as chief Monday, and starts his new job as Kelowna's Fire Chief today. Carlisle argued for enhancements to Vernon area fire protection during his tenure, some of which are in progress. "The one that was approved by council this year was Predator Ridge to see if we can get a volunteer service operating there, so that project is coming forward, and I think the next one will be to look at Bella Vista and the Canadian Lakeview Estates area." He says one of his first duties will be budget discussions with council to determine if service level adjustments are needed. "The key there is what the appropriate level of service is and working with the Kelowna council to move towards that." Carlisle beat out about 90 applicants for the Kelowna job.
Former Kamloops fire chief Gary McCall takes over as Vernon's interim fire chief today. He will stay on until a full time replacement is hired.
