Vernon city council has slashed this year's operating grant for O'Keefe Ranch by more than $30,000 to $150,000. The move comes as council tries to keep the numbers down in the 2011 budget. Manager Catherine Lord says the ranch is already running on a pared down budget. ``It's going to hurt staffing for one thing. We're going to have to see if there are a couple of things that we just don't provide anymore,'' Lord tells SUN FM. The manager says the ranch does expect some gaming grant money this year but it has been earmarked for capital projects, not operating costs. At a meeting Tuesday night, councillor Bob Spiers says council whittled down this year's tax rate to a .4 percent decrease and staff have been instructed to find more areas to cut. However, Spiers notes the budget process is not over and the numbers could still inch up to a half or one percent increase in taxes.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
