Water Rates Set To Increase As GVAC Accepts Four-Tier Plan - Coldstream's Gyula Kiss votes against new system

You may not want to fill you tub too high this year as water bills are likely to increase again. The Greater Vernon Advisory Council is recommending a four-tier system be adopted which will increase the base rate to $66.20 and see an average user's water bill climb almost 20 percent. Calculations show that low water users could see a much higher increase, possibly almost 60 percent. The North Okanagan Regional District board has to approve the plan. District's engineering manager Arnold Badke says tiered system is meant to encourage people to conserve as the price increases as more water is used.  Coldstream director Gyula Kiss voted against the new rate structure.
