A walk and petitions are planned this weekend in Vernon as animal lovers band together to remember the sled dogs slaughtered at Whistler after the Olympics. Vernon and District Animal Care Society spokesperson Heather Pettit says the walk is planned for Sunday at 11 am. It starts at the Army Cadet Camp and ends downtown, in front of Vernon Monashee MLA Eric Foster's office. Pettit says people will also be asked to sign two petitions. One urges the federal government to strengthen the laws against animal cruelty, the other urges Victoria to change the system regarding animal welfare. She says it is not working. Walks are being held this month across BC as well as in Montreal, Calgary, Newfoundland and Norway. Foster will be presented with one of them on Monday. Dogs are welcome on the walk.
