A massive fire has caused extensive damage to a Vernon apartment building. Firefighters responded to the call around 5 am on Friday after fire broke out in a second floor suite of an apartment building on 31st A Street just south of Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Everyone got out of the building safely. The estimated 52 occupants are receiving temporary shelter at the hospital. Due to the frigid temperatures, back-up has been requested from the BX, Okanagan Landing and Coldstream fire departments.

Apartment Fire Continues to Rage ESS assisting evacuated tenants

No word yet if everyone was able to escape a fire in an apartment building on Hospital hill.  Flames shooting are still shooting through the roof  of  the 30 suite apartment building in Vernon.  The fire broke out at around 5 a.m.in the 1800 block of 31A Street. Residents have been evacuated and are being sheltered at Vernon Jubilee Hospital to escape the -17 degree temperatures.  And we've  had a facebook message that people living in condo's further up the hill are also being evacuated to the hospital cafeteria.  Fire crews from nearby Okanagan Landing have been brought in to backup Vernon firefighters.  The conditions for firefighters are challenging,  with the windchill it feels like minus 20.
