The stubborn fire in the apartment block in the 1800 block of 31St that challenged fire crews for almost eight hours has finally been put out. The damage to the building is so extensive that a structural engineer will be brought in to determine if it is safe for investigators to go into the building. Nobody is allowed into or around the building at this time, as parts of it are extremely unsafe. Security personnel have been set up around the building for the weekend. Residents will be advised about accessing their belongings once the engineering study is complete. ESS personnel continue to work with the residents of the building who have been displaced because of the fire.
