There was a big turnout to an anti-jail rally in Lumby Wednesday night. Concerned Citizens Group spokesperson Huguette Allen says more than 200 people showed up, including Mayor Kevin Action and Area D director Rick Fairburn. Allen says her group, which is opposed to a proposed provincial correctional facility in the area, plans to put even more pressure on Lumby Village council ahead of an April referendum on the issue. ``Now we know the people are behind us so we're planning a real campaign,'' says Allen. ``I think it's going to have to be alot of canvassing, alot of going to speak to small groups of people, not holding meetings, but go where the people are.'' Allen says the meeting heard from five speakers and people were given information on the dangers of such a facility and what it could do to real estate prices. The next big meeting on the topic will be hosted by Lumby council on March 23rd when provincial officials will speak, possibly about the benefits of a jail.
