NORD Seeks Viper Payment

Wesbild CentreThe Vernon Vipers have signed a new five year contract with the regional district for use of Wesbild Centre, but there's still one issue that needs to be settled.  NORD's Parks and Rec G-M Al McNiven says the hockey team still has some outstanding bills, mostly for ice rental, which he estimates at around 50-thousand dollars.  "I believe they had held off paying until there was a completion of the contract, so now it's time to clean it up."  McNiven says some of the fees date back to 2008.  Vipers owner Dr. Duncan Wray agrees they owe NORD some money--but he says it's for more like 30-thousand, part of which he says is for office rent he stopped paying when their last contract ran out.  Wray tells KISS FM, he's disputing some of the ice rental fees--but he expects the two sides will come to a resolution.  Wray say among his beefs is being charged for an exhibition game he says they never played in 2010, and a big jump in their ice fees for training camp, which he says went from $4,000 to $9,000 a couple years ago.  The issue was briefly discussed at Thursday's Greater Vernon Advisory Committee meeting after it was noted the team and NORD had signed a new year contract.  BX Silver Star director Mike Macnabb questioned if the tab had been paid and urged McNiven to resolve it. Macnabb said, "If it's a big chunk of change, it's imperative we get it back."
