Commuters driving over the W.R. Bennett Bridge were treated to an unusual site: a boat dangling from the bridge. While no-one has claimed responsibility, this week is Engineering Week at UBC-O.(Photo: Kelly Hayes - Castanet)

An email -- a news tip -- came in to Castanet early Monday morning with the author stating that she happened to notice a boat hanging from the W.R. Bennett Bridge at 4:45 a.m.

She's called Maria with Ogopogo at the wheel, but no motor. This is engineering week at UBCO. Last year they hung a giant 'E' from the span but obviously decided to crank it up this time around. Bridge Operations Manager, Kevin Hamakawa, says the pranksters obviously pulled off the stunt at night, taking great risks. Hamakawa adds that taking down the boat means he's putting his crew at risk as well. The stunt has the attention of senior transportation ministry officials including MOT District Manager, Murray Tekano, who says measures will be put in place to deter these kind of stunts.
