The newly hired head of the Vernon's Community Policing Unit already has a new job title. Jim Patenaude has now been named manager of the City's Protective Services Unit. It means he's ultimately responsible not only for the six staffers and 100 volunteers at Community Policing but also for Vernon's 15 bylaw officers and the 35 or so members of the RCMP municipal staff. ``I wasn't aware of the changes,'' admits Patenaude. ``I didn't know it was in the works.'' Patenaude has only been in his job for two-and-one-half weeks after retiring from the Vancouver police department. He attributes the changes to the retirement of City clerk Marg Bailey and a restructuring of her role.
