New Safe Communities Boss

Vernon has a new manager for its safe communities unit.  Jim PatenaudeJim Patenaude comes to the city-RCMP position after 27 years with Vancouver police.  "I was most recently sergeant in charge of community policing in Vancouver, and along with that was nine community policing offices in Vancouver."  Patenaude (pictured) replaces Ewen Harvie who left the position a few months ago. He says he's excited to be in Vernon,  and back in the Okanagan.  "I grew up in the Okanagan and went to college in Kelowna before my police career."  Patenaude says it's a way to engage the community in policing.  "Vernon does a good job of it already, and we're going to do some more." The Safe Communities Unit uses mostly volunteer staff to run programs like Crime Stoppers, Citizens on Patrol and Speedwatch.
