Taser Disguised As Cell Phone

Cell phone taser (RCMP)It looks like a cell phone--but it's actually a taser-- and a much more powerful one than police use.  Mounties seized the device from a driver Friday in Vernon.  The RCMP's Gord Molendyk says a 37 year old Coldstream man has been charged with possessing a prohibited weapon.
"It was located on the console of the vehicle. The taser that was seized has manufacturer's specs of two million volts. Our tasers have an output of 50-thousand volts."  Molendyk says the devices can be purchased on the Internet.  "Probably the best way to explain it is, it's not the voltage that could kill you (if used), it's the amperage, so the higher up your amps are, the greater effect. What it will do is give you a real sting."
The suspect also faces drug possession charges after an officer noticed a black truck driving around with loose garbage bags rolling around the back.  The officer noticed a smell of fresh cut marijuana, leading to the driver's arrest for possession of a controlled substance.
