Vernon city councillor Bob Spiers was the only one opposed Monday as council okayed this year's budget. he felt council could have, "done better.'' Spiers wanted a zero budget and got, instead, a fractional increase in property taxes. It was expected to be a .24 percent increase for homeowners but finance manager Kevin Bertles says he just got the land assessment information and that could change. Bertles advises that land assessments are not what had been expected and that number might change.
