High School Students get RCMP Training - Academy underway May 1st

More than 40 high school students from around the Okanagan and Shuswap will be in Vernon starting May 1st for weeklong training given by RCMP volunteers. The Jean Minguy Memorial RCMP cadet academy takes place each year for students interested in law enforcement. However chairperson Terry Packenham says it's not a recruiting tool for the RCMP. He says, "It's all about emulating those core values within the RCMP of integrity, honesty, professionalism, respect and accountability. That's what it's about. And it's part of that individual's learning curve. Things that they are going to need and tools that we can give them in their tool box for becoming good citizens." Students will be reporting from Penticton, Summerland, W. Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country, Vernon, Lumby, Salmon Arm.
