RCMP continue to investigate a fatal Highway 6 collision Thursday that left one man dead. Vernon-North Okanagan were called just after 11:30 a.m. to an accident approximately 40 kilometres east of Cherryville involving a loaded tractor-trailer chip truck unit and a Ford F350 pick-up truck. The driver of the pickup truck, a 22-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult woman and infant, also from the pickup truck, were transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital. “The adult female suffered serious injuries and was later transferred to Kelowna General Hospital where she remains at this time,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Gerry Kovacs Friday morning. “Although serious, the adult female’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.” The infant escaped injury in the collision. The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries. No name or hometown of the victim has been released by RCMP. The highway was closed for five hours for collision re-construction, re-opening to single-lane traffic at 4:30 p.m. Road conditions were good at the time of the crash. “The investigation is ongoing by North Okanagan Traffic Services to determine the cause,” said Kovacs. Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the vehicles prior to the crash to contact North Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-541-7171.

Just a couple of observations about this news article. I find it quite curious the truck transport company from Vernon is unamed in the article. Also why is there a call for witnesses? I encourage readers to travel to the scene, and determine for yourself the cause. The investigation should produce severe consequences for the truck driver and the company, or the allready strong sentiment to ban these units on Hwy 6 will gain lots of traction. This incident has garnered little response from the Vernon firm, indicative of their corporate soul or lack therof.
