DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)

Second Bid For Sports Land
A second bid will be made to the agricultural land commission to use a site next to Okanagan College for a $7.8 million multi use sports facility. The agency rejected the first request, feeling the ten acres is still suitable for farming, and questioning the need for the venue.
Greater Vernon Advisory Committee director Patrick Nicol (pictured) says the second bid needs more input from user groups. "Let them have an opportunity. Give them some ownership in this because quite frankly, that's who will be promoting it, and it will benefit the community over the years." Coldstream mayor Jim Garlick says GVAC directors will address the concerns, and re-apply. "I think it would be kind of silly not to. We've gone through this process, and we can walk away from it, but I don't think that's the best idea. I think we should continue on, and give it another try." Garlick says they will provide the commission members with more information. "We can't just assume they will come in understanding all the material they've received. Second is a bigger picture for the parks. Where are we looking at going in the future with parks?" GVAC chair Wayne Lippert says the new pitch will stress the need in Greater Vernon, not just Coldstream. "Recognize the Greater Vernon community and not just Coldstream, and the information they got, obviously they didn't feel it was enough." Lippert feels it was a mistake to leave out certain groups from the first bid. "For example, a large group that supports a lot of functions like Funtastic wasn't asked to be part of that. You need everybody on board." Coldstream, the community where the land is located, led the first application. The proposed facility on land owned by the college would include an Olympic sized rubberized running track, and a sports field.

Is there is not one politician who will speak up against this ridiculous obsession we seem to have with trying to build sports facilities for a shrinking population of users at the hefty tax expense of a growing population of retirees. If there is... you have my vote in November.
