Raising awareness of the solvable problem of hunger in Canada

People in our community and right across the country are going hungry.  This is Hunger Awareness Day today.  David MacBain, with Vernon's Salvation Army says year to date 26-hundred people have come for hampers and  their numbers for the Annual "Hunger Count" are also up with almost 11-hundred people needing hampers. The "Hunger Count" in March saw an 18 per cent increase over last year. And he says year to date 26-hundred people have come for hampers and another 100 to 150 people a day come through the doors just to get bread.  MacBain says one third of the people needing the local foodbank are children. And he says one change this year - the third highest category they now serve are people who are working, but can't make ends meet. He says their stock is not too bad right now, but if you're wondering what to bring for Creative Chaos on the weekend :

Ø  Rice     Ø  Beans & Legumes  Ø  Pasta Sauce  Ø  Canned Tomatoes & sauce Ø  Canned stews Ø  Dry soups Ø  Peanut butter Ø  Canned Fruit & Vegetables Ø  Kids’ Snack items
