Spike belt ends early morning chase

Thinking ahead allowed Vernon RCMP to get their man Monday morning.  Vernon RCMP Sgt Robert Daly says a flat bed trailer was reported stolen from Kelowna early on May 30.  Daly says police spotted trailer attached to a north-bound pickup truck in Lake Country and began a pursuit.  When the vehicle veered off the highway onto a side street, Daly says he knew exactly what would happen next.  "I knew he had to come up Commonage Road."  A spike belt was placed and sure enough, the chase continued toward Vernon on Commonage Road.  The spike belt worked and the lone male occupant of the pickup truck was arrested, says Daly.  The suspect faces multiple charges including failure to stop for police and possession of stolen property.
