Plane Lands On Grass, Eyewitness Says

A tense situation for a pilot at the Vernon airport this morning.  The operator of a small two engine plane apparently had some problems with the landing gear, which didn't deploy, and had to land on the grass beside the runway around 11AM.  Dave Christman lives in the Lakepoint Mobile Home Park on Tronson Road, and saw the plane come sliding to a stop.  He tells KISS FM, The fellow who was flying it, he slowly got out of the aircraft. I imagine it was a bit of knee-temblor to him. He was obviously not injured. There was no one hurt. The propeller blades were all bent back. There doesn't seem to much damage to the aircraft other than I guess the belly is dented up and the under carriage is likely damaged, and the engine is damaged from the propellers being bent over.  An airport official would not comment on the incident, directing media calls to Vernon City Hall. Emergency vehicles have been at the site.
