Emergency officials are trying to raise public awareness of the wildfire threat up at Silver Star Mountain Resort and all the way down the hill to the BX-Foothills. A public open house takes place at the Silver Star fire hall Tuesday afternoon from 4 pm until 6. Fire chief Russ Mills says it is important residents being aware of the hazards. Mills says there are simple things people can do to help protect their properties, including removing woodpiles away from buildings and trees to close to a house. The session will include emergency officials from the BX-Swan Lake fire department, Vernon Emergency Services, Search and Rescue and Ministry of Forests personnel.
