Signal Changes On 27th Street /The Caring House

Vernon City HallThe city of Vernon may take a closer look at how to keep traffic moving better on two busy streets.  A staff recommendation before council Monday calls for a 30-thousand dollar study to look at the traffic signal timings for the corridors of 27th Street and 48th Avenue. Transportation Technician Amanda Watson says in a report, the signal pattern ensures optimum travel speeds while reducing vehicle stops and delays. The idea was tried in 2006, but didn't realize maximum capacity, and was abandoned after more traffic growth. The study will also determine if full traffic signals are warranted on 27th Street, at 28th and 35th avenues. ----------------

The City of Vernon is being asked to get behind a new facility to help families dealing with medical issues.  We Care Home Services has opened The Caring House, where guest families and friends can stay while loved ones receive medical treatment at Vernon Jubilee Hospital or other local care facilities. Owner Holly Malfair has purchased the Tuck Inn B and B in lower East Hill for the facility which is operated by a non profit society.  The organizers, who will before city council Monday, are urging businesses, municipalities and the province to help subsidize the operating costs.

Wow, staff recommendation before council Monday calls for a 30-thousand dollar study.

Whatever happened to common sense. The stop lights at the 27th Street intersection at Canadian Tire have embedded sensors and work fine.

Guess that is too simple for the Swivel servants to use.

To the previous commentator:
It is better to hold your tongue and have everyone suspect that you are an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Perhaps you should have left the depth of your ignorance on transportation engineering to the imagination.

The above commentator should perhaps read the article by Pete McIntryre again.

"signal timings for the corridors of 27th Street and 48th Avenue."

The City just spent a fair bit of money up grading the 27th St. and 48th Ave signals. I would assume they did their homework before doing same.

$30,000-that is absurd-we need a shake up at City Hall-staff and council.Staff don`t know where the critical needs are and most of council and the mayor just go along with there foolish recommendations.
