City Council To Learn About Road Diet - Staff seeking major grant to cut lanes along 43rd Avenue

Vernon city council is going to get a lesson on a `road diet' Monday and, as you'd expect, it's something to make a road smaller. This proposed diet will be controversial. City staff have applied for an 868-thousand-dollar gas tax grant for a 43rd Avenue road diet. Transportation technician Amanda Watson says it would reduce the roadway from the current four lanes to three and allow for bike lanes to be striped in on both sides. Watson says the concept has been adopted wholeheartedly in many North American cities as it reduces road traffic.

this is really getting stupid now, this council is really going to hear it come election time if they approve another one of these projects. Lets do an audit and see how many bikes actually use these bike lanes, that half the year are covered in snow anyway.
