Figures on the City of Vernon's website show 65 employees were paid over $75,000 in salary and expenses last year. They also show that of the 15 who made over 100-grand, eight were members of the Vernon Fire Rescue Service. Firefighters are currently involved in contract negotiations. Administrator Leon Gous was the highest paid City official, bringing in just over $172,000 in 2010. But his salary and expenses were lower than that of Greg Betts who recently retired as administrator of the North Okanagan Regional District. Betts pulled in almost $188-grand last year. At the regional district, 25 employees made over $75,000 in 2010, eight of those were paid over $100,000.
