Home Owner Pepper Sprayed By Intruder

A Vernon home owner got blasted with pepper spray after coming across an intruder in her home. As we first told you about on Kiss FM, RCMP say the incident happened in the 34-hundred block of 21st Ave in the Mission Hill area Thursday afternoon.  The owner called 911 after finding a man inside, going through  various rooms.  Police spokesman Gord Molendyk says the suspect discharged bear spray in the owner's face when she confronted him, and then fled on foot.  He advises people to back away and call for help if they face a similar situation.  "Especially in this day and age. We have individuals that are desparate, and we don't know what they may be carrying. More and more are carrying weapons like in this particular case."  Patrols of the area by officers and the police dog failed to locate a suspect. Molendyk says it's not known if the suspect got away with anything from the home although some money and other items were found outside the home.  The suspect is described as being about 20 years old, with dark hair and average build. He was wearing a red and black mackinaw style jacket, with a black ball hat and black backpack.
