No Chance For Sports Facility Referendum In Autumn - Coldstream mayor rules out fall vote as College works on rebid

It appears once bitten, twice shy, when it comes to Okanagan College's appeal for a sports facility on its Kal Lake campus. In April, the Agricultural Land Commission shot down the College's bid for a $7.8-million track and playing field, refusing to allow the ten acres out of the Land Reserve. College spokesperson Allan Coyle says staff are still ``toiling on the materials'' to be included in the ollege's appeal. Local politicians had hoped for a speedier process in order to win ALC approval and then take the matter to a public borrowing referendum during local elections this fall. Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick says that won't be happening. ``There's no use rushing it now. There's no way we can meet the timeline of getting it in place for the election, the coming election, this fall,'' says Garlick. ``It will happen sometime afterwards if it goes ahead for a referendum.'' A referendum held during municipal elections in November would have saved tens of thousands of dollars.
