Civic election speculation will start to heat up over the next few weeks. The city of Vernon gets the process started by handing out nomination documents to interested people starting this Monday at City Hall. There is a 100 dollar refundable deposit for the packages. The nomination period for all BC councils, regional district and school boards is from October 4th to the 14th, with voting day on Saturday November 19th. Candidates have to be a Canadian citizen, 18 or older and a resident of BC for at least 6 months. Vernon mayor Wayne Lippert--who will seek a third term--was challenged by five others in 2008, while 13 people ran for the six councillor positions.
