The project manager of Vernon's new library says the building is on time, and on budget. John Hiebert of Task Management says most of the concrete work is done, and the steel roof will go up in a couple weeks. "We're doing a lot of the roughed in mechanical and electrical, so all of the plumbing and electrical lines are being drawn, and most of the basic infrastructure for the building has been installed, service wise." Hiebert says 95 percent of the contracts have been awarded, and he doesn't expect overruns on the 12.6 million dollar budget. "From a cost risk perspective, we're not entirely clear, but the bulk of the risky areas of work have been completed and tendered and are underway, so it's going very well." Hiebert expects two story building on 30th Avenue to open by next March or April. At 30,000 square feet, it will be more than double the size of the current library on 32nd Avenue. It's located right beside the new Nixon Wenger tower. The city is also doing some road and service work in that area. Hiebert says there's hasn't been any problems working together in that busy space. "I've known the rep for the law office project from when we we're working here on the arena (Wesbild Centre) and Performing Arts Centre, and we've collaborated with them right from the very beginning."
