Coldstream Concerned About Policing- Residents don't expect police to respond

Some concern expressed by Coldstream council over the RCMP's lack of officers on patrol. Councillor Maria Besso says lesser problems, involving traffic violations or problems around the boat launch, are going unreported because residents feel police won't respond. She says RCMP Superintendent Reg Burgess admitted to council  that up to 25 percent of his workforce is on ``some kind of leave or unavailable.'' Besso would like that addressed in the current contract negotiations with the RCMP.  Besso says that at a meeting last month, West Kal Road residents revealed they had been plagued by troublemakers throwing rocks, taunting and stealing items from vehicles but had not reported the incidents to police. Besso says residents have been urged to report these types of incidents from now on.
