More want mayor's seat

With two high profile candidates seeking the mayor's chair in Kelowna, you would think other potential candidates would step out of the way. Not so.  Incumbent mayor, Sharon Shepherd and former three-term mayor, Walter Grey have both declared their intentions to run in November. The two ran head-to-head back in 2005 when Shepherd beat Grey by about 2,500 votes. With a little more than three weeks before people have to officially declare their intentions, nine other people have picked up nomination papers for mayor. They include James Murphy, Kim Ouellette, Diana Van Beest, Cal Condy, Derek Barnbrook, D. Earl Keegan and four others who have asked that their names not be released. Another 49 people have picked up nomination papers for the eight councillor seats. They include all eight incumbents.
