School Contingency Plans

With BC teachers having served strike notice yesterday, all school districts around the Province have been establishing contingency plans when school resumes next week.  District #22 here in Vernon is joining other Districts in canceling the morning recesses at all schools due to a lack of supervisory staff since teachers are withdrawing their extra curricular duties.  School buses will run 15 minutes earlier in the morning and classes will also be dismissed 15 minutes earlier in the afternoon....so parents need to be aware of the changes. District bus transporation schedules will be adjusted to align with earlier dismissal times.  As for in the classrooms, Superintendent Bev Rundell says there will be no changes. "Teachers will still be teaching and assessing and evaluating, but they will not be doing any reports to school based administrators or  district based administrators and they won't be attending any meetings" Rundell says teachers coaching sports teams again is extra curricular, and it will be up to them if they continue to do those jobs during the job action. Over 8,350 students will be affected next week, 530 are first time kindergarten kids.
