Tree Planting Causes Gas Leak

A natural gas line was ruptured in front of the new City Furniture building on Anderson Way this morning.  Deputy chief Lawrie Skolrood says a landscaper hit a main line while putting in a tree after being told the line wasn't located there.  Skolrood tells KISS FM, "They (Fire Rescue) were on scene until Fortis made the repair, or at least stopped the leak, and they checked the surrounding buildings like the Superstore, for any levels of natural gas, which did not exist." Skolrood says he was not aware of any injuries.  Anderson Way was blocked to traffic during the incident, but no buildings had to be evacuated. "When you're dealing with natural gas and a length of time there's certain concerns if it gets to an ignition source and has the right mixture, then we can have a real problem, but it never got there."
