Residents of the North Okanagan now have a new $1.15 million dollar
composting facility to dispose of yard waste and clean wood waste. The new complex opened today (Friday) on Birnie Road at the Greater Vernon Recycling and Disposal Facility. Nicole Kohnert, the Manager of Regional Engineering Services for the
North Okanagan Regional District says the Class "A" compost is
considered a soil amendment and not a fertilizer. The compost will be available for sale to the public by the spring of
2012. The facility expected to keep up to 19-thousand tonnes of
organic waste out of our landfill.
