Vernon's Salvation Army food bank is asking those who need a Christmas food hamper to sign up. Spokesman Dave MacBain says they've talked to about 225 families so far. He says, "That's about 25 percent of what we're expecting. We're
expecting over 800, so we want to encourage people to come. We're doing
interviews Monday to Friday all day until the 9th of December." MacBain says the food supplies are looking better, and some upcoming events will only add to that. Shoparama is at the Rec Centre this weekend, and the annual
Realtors Food Drive is next Wednesday night, the 7th. Last year's total was 19 tons of donated food items. The Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle campaign is so far down about
11 hundred dollars, or 22 percent, compared to last year's pace. The goal is 125 thousand dollars, the same as 2010, with the money used for programs. MacBain says there are other ways to donate. "You can donate online at
www.vernonhouseofhope.com, the mailers will be coming this week to your home, or at our office at the House of Hope, right behind Staples." They're also looking for volunteers willing to take a three hour bell
ringing stint with a kettle, that's a Monday to Saturday only job.
