An official with the BC Conservative Party believes there's a mood for political change in the North Okanagan. The party's Vernon Monashee Association president Ian Tribes says
Liberal candidate Eric Foster could be vulnerable in next year's
election. "You'll find when people have a proper right-of-centre alternative,
they will turn to that. I think a lot of people are dissatisfied with
the way the Liberals have kind of run this province into the ground, you
might say." Tribes says the party expects to begin selecting a local candidate in June. He says the public is welcome to attend a town hall meeting-- put on by the party-- at the Schubert Centre at 7 Thursday night. "Basically we are inviting anyone who wants to come out. You don't
have to be a party member yet. We just want to discuss with everybody
what our views are, and we want to hear from the public what they think
needs to be changed." Speakers will include past party president and former Vernon mayor
Wayne McGrath, and former Okanagan Reform M-P Jim Hart who now lives in
Vernon. An Ipsos-Reid poll conducted between February 1, 2012 to February 5,
2012sampling 1000 people had the following result for voting intentions
(normalized to excluded undecided people):
BC NDP - 44%
BC Liberals - 32%
BC Conservatives - 16%
BC Greens - 7%
