Vernon opts into contaminated sites rules

There are new rules for properties that have been potentially contaminated.
The City of Vernon has opted into the province's contaminated sites regulation.
Property owners will now be required to submit completed site profile forms as attachments to the following development related applications:
a.    Development Permit
b.    Development Variance Permit
c.    Rezoning
d.    Subdivision
e.    Soil Removal Permit
f.     Site Preparation Permit
g.    Demolition Permit
The city will charge $100 for the provision of this service, as recommended by the province, although it will not be applied to development applications until April.
Site profiles are the first step in identifying contaminated sites and assist to protect property owners and purchasers. Owners must complete the site profile form to the best of their knowledge. When the site profile has been deemed complete, it will be reviewed by local government officials. Ultimately, the completed site profile form will be forwarded to the Ministry of Environment.
