Smart Meters..And Animal Traps

Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Monday, 12 March 2012 02:25
The debate over BC Hydro's safe meters will come to Vernon council today. Mike Pearson from a group called 'Citizens for Safe Technology' is scheduled to make a presentation. Opponents to the meters have expressed health concerns about radiation from the wireless devices. BC Hydro says it's nearing the halfway mark of the 1.8 million smart-meter installations around the province, and 99 percent of customers have accepted them. Meantime, a request for a new Vernon bylaw to ban body gripping animal traps has generated the most letters and emails to City Hall, in some time. They are still coming in, with most of the writers supporting a bylaw, claiming the traps are a danger to pets and kids, and cruel to animals. The BC Trapping Association and the BC Conservation Service have said a city bylaw would be a duplication of provincial policy already in place and enforced. Council could rule on the issue at today's meeting
