Potential charges for cyclist following collision

Energetic City : May 11, 2012
A cyclist may be facing charges following a collision with a pick-up. At 10 a.m. of Friday, May 11, a 54 year old male riding a bicycle collided with a GMC pick-up truck at the corner of 100 St. and 98 Ave. The pick-up, being driven by a 51 year old male, was traveling west on 98 Ave. approaching 100 St. The male riding the bike was riding south on the sidewalk next to 100 St.  The collision took place when the cyclist attempted to cross 98 Ave. The injured rider was transported to the Fort St. John Hospital with un-determined, non-life threatening injuries. Motor Vehicle Act charges are being considered against the cyclist, which includes Riding on the Sidewalk, Failing to Ride the Bike on the Right Side of the Road, as well as Not Wearing a Helmet. Fort St. John RCMP is taking this opportunity to remind cyclists of all ages to always wear a helmet and to follow all the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act.
