Firefighters are back on scene of another grass fire. As of 9:55 a..m. today (Tuesday), firefighters are responding to a blaze on the back side of the Greater Vernon landfill. Access is being sought from both Birnie and Commonage roads. Crews have come from the Okanagan Landing and Vernon departments, while the B.C. Forest Service is also involved. Firefighters became aware of the fire after people at Marshall Field spotted smoke rising from the Commonage. It was a week ago that firefighters tackled a 36-hectare grass fire at The Rise neighbourhood in Vernon's Bella Vista area. More details on the Commonage fire will be posted online as they become available.
