Vernon Search and Rescue will be up in the air with its latest venture. The volunteer group will become the first of it's kind in Canada to develop and implement a helicopter winch rescue program to be used as a regional resource for the central interior. It's similar to what the Canadian military and Coast Guard use. VSAR is starting a three year pilot project after a couple years of research. 60-thousand dollars for equipment and training is being donated by the three local Rotary clubs (Kal Lake $10,000, Vernon $7,500, Silver Star $5,000), the Community Foundation of North Okanagan ($7,500), and the Regional District of North Okanagan ($20,000). VSAR is also contributing $10,000.
