A Vernon man with a lengthy drunk driving record, is being accused of the offense again. An off-duty police officer called dispatch Friday night at 5:50 after seeing a northbound Pontiac Sunfire car making mistakes, and veering towards oncoming traffic on Highway 97. The car was stopped near College Way and police say an open bottle of vodka was found on the front seat. The 45 year old suspect was taken to the detachment where he provided blood-alcohol readings of more than twice the legal limit. "Our officer has learned that the suspect has nine previous convictions for impaired. What is even scarier is this person holds a Class 3 (commercial) drivers license and a Class 1 learners license," says Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. The man will be in court June 13th.
