There are reports of a serious accident involving a semi and a pedestrian on Hospital Hill near Polson Park in Vernon Sunday. According to eyewitnesses, a woman in her 30's or 40's ran into
traffic and, although the driver of the semi swerved to avoid her, she
was struck and killed. Highway 97 northbound remains closed 200m south of Highway 6 junction. Estimated time of opening is between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Detour available via 16th Avenue, Mission Road and 25th Avenue.

UPDATE: 1 P.M. SUNDAY: Vernon RCMP and
the coroner remain on-scene. The two northbound lanes are closes, and
traffic is being rerouted through Mission Hill at 16th Avenue and onto
34th Street. The accident remains under investigation.
