The new chair of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee is defending the committee's decision to delay a referendum for a new art gallery to 2015. Juliette Cunningham says it was felt the best approach was to prepare an arts and culture master plan, costing $100,000, looking at the needs of all local groups. "In order for us to move ahead with all issues for arts and culture, we have to have that master plan. For example, the city of Kelowna did theirs in 2010. We've talked aobut it but never done it," says Cunningham. Suitable locations for facilities will also be looked at which art gallery officials believe has been done, and is a waste of money. "Maybe this isn't the best location. Is that where the public wants to see it? I think that location has been a little bit by default," says Cunningham.
